FAQ – Sun tanning products

Here are some of the most used queries related to sun tanning products, with an added commentary.

1- Is sun tanning oil bad for you?

Quite naturally, the first question to ask is: is this product actually bad for you? This is the question that will provide you with the information you need. That is not to say, however, that using a spray and applying it on your skin in a few quick spritzes won’t leave you with a tanned skin tone.

2- What does sun tan oil do?

After all, as you can see from the small amount of research I’ve done on the topic, there isn’t a lot of solid information out there that supports or proves the use of sun tanning products. The main thing to look out for is that the product must have some sort of UV filter in it, and the ingredient used to make the product should not be parabens or synthetic fragrances.

For example, if sun tanning oil contains an ingredient called Cytanolin, it should be possible to identify that on the ingredient listing on the bottle. As you can see on the ingredient list for Cytanolide Soluble, it’s listed as a “substitute for human serum albumin, commonly used as an emulsifier in cosmetic products.”

3- Which tanning oil gets you the darkest?

There’s a lot of trial and error involved when getting a darker tan. That is to say, all tanning lotions have a slightly different tone, and the lighter the color, the more oil will be needed to cover the skin.
Another thing to look for is that the sunscreen in the product has SPF (or protection factor). Look for ingredients such as ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and avobenzone (a form of oleic acid), which have a minimum SPF 30.

4- What oil is good for sun tanning?

As I said before, the goal of sun tanning is not to get dark. The right type of oil for you is an essential oil, which should contain an ingredient such as olive oil, clove oil, or eucalyptus oil. The point of this oil is to leave your skin with a natural, shine-free tan.

5- Should you put tanning oil on your face?

While most sun tanning lotions are supposed to work for the face, others, like FaceTan Daily Oil, contain ingredients such as castor oil and sweet almond oil. These two ingredients should not beI’m a big believer in using oil on your face for two reasons. The first is that you should be diligent about applying sunscreen, especially on your face, but the second reason is more practical. The more color you have on your face, the less you have to worry about getting burned in the sun.

6- Can you mix sunscreen and tanning oil?

Sure, you can! But be careful, or you could be risking serious burns!

7- Does tanning oil work on pale skin?

Absolutely! There are dozens of high quality products out there, and some are even natural, so there’s no reason why your skin type can’t be included in the mix.

8- Does tanning oil work on fair skin?

It depends, but if you have fair skin, a great deal of sun tanning lotions work well for you. However, if you have olive, dark, or even medium skin, you might not get much of a tanned glow.

9- How long should you tan with tanning oil?

Some people will tan over the course of a few days, but it’s best not to risk it. The effects of sun exposure can last several months and, at worst, you’ll get a sunburn and bronchitis, or a skin disease called vitiligo. So, if you have any sort of sensitivity or eczema, you should avoid using tanning oils.
